Teresa,
My friend just got her real estate license last week and she knew a few months ago we were thinking about putting our townhouse on the market. Well, the day she got her license, she ran over to our house all excited with a listing agreement in her hand wanting to sell our townhouse for us. I told her we were still contemplating whether we were going to sell right now or not. I am not sure whether we should go ahead and let her sell it or if we should get a realtor with more experience. I would hate to lose my friendship. What do you think?
Dear Irene,
Every agent has to start somewhere and no better place than with people they know. Real Estate sales is a referral business and most new Realtors only have their friends to turn to. If you feel your friend is self motivated, honest, has the financial backing (funds for advertising), and would do a good job, then hire her. Your friend will have the guidance of her Broker, who will check everything she does and who will make sure it is done correctly. Most of the time, new agents are more excited and will work harder than seasoned agents. If your friend does a great job for you, by all means, spread the news and refer her to everyone you know.
If you feel your friend won't provide good service, then tell her that you have decided not to mix business with friends and family. End with a positive note and tell her she still has the opportunity to help find a buyer for your townhouse.
Good Luck!
If you have questions or concerns to submit? I would love to hear from you.
